Artist Statement

Landscape is my passion.

I search the woods, fields, and shores looking for those
special places that spark my imagination. Being and painting
en plein air is an exhilarating experience. To paint the heart
and soul of these intimate spaces is my mission and my joy.

I love contrast.

What first grabs my eye when painting on location are the
shapes created by light and shadow. After blocking in these
abstract shapes, color takes the lead and the painting unfolds.

The journey is the thing.

Exploration is my inspiration whether painting en plein air
or in the studio. When painting in my studio there is a point at which
the painting takes over and I am just along for the ride.
There is a great sense of excitement created by
not knowing how it will end.

Pastels are my medium.

I love their rich, vibrant colors and textures.
They are always at the ready.
Look, find the color, make a mark.
