Holiday Greetings Everyone!
It's official! Judging from the snow on the ground and the cold readings on the thermometer, Winter is here to stay. Though I'm not fond of being cold, winter is a great inspiration for my work in both pastel and oil. As you've heard before, I love painting winter. It's such a relief to have a soft, muted palette after the bold, saturated colors of the warmer months. Occasionally, I will paint outside if there is a sunny, sheltered spot to stand in. The air is crisp, the snow is fresh, and the sky is blue, blue, blue. Exhilarating!
These paintings are inspired by the first snow of the season when there are still signs of Fall mingled with the fresh white snow of early Winter. Winterberry and dried grasses rise up out of the snow and lingering leaves glow golden through the trees. The snow but a portent of what's to come.

I have not been out to paint in the snow yet, but I will!
Cheers, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
